Tips for Freezing Cakes

- Step 2: Wrap the cake(s) in Press & Seal after they have totally cooled. According to bakers, this is the greatest product for packaging cakes. Maybe it’s just me, but saran wrap or thin plastic is really sticky and inconvenient. And whenever I use it, I feel like I should double wrap the food. It certainly works, but Press & Seal is considerably simpler to use and, in my experience, keeps food fresher. (I don’t work for this company; I merely adore it.)
- Step 3: On a sizable piece of aluminium foil, write the sort of cake and the use-by date. Cakes shouldn’t be frozen for longer than three months for the greatest flavour and texture. Although you might delay serving it for up to 4 or 5 months, the food will taste fresher the sooner you do. Before I cover the cake, I write on the aluminium foil just in case the ink bleeds through. It has in the past!
- Step 4 is to wrap the cake with foil. :-
- Step 5 – Put the cake(s) in a freezer-safe container in step 5. Alternatively, if you don’t have a large enough container, you can wrap the food with more aluminium foil. How to Freeze Cake Make sure the foil with the date on it is, of course, the one that is on the outside.
- Step 6 – Freeze for up to three months in step six.
Aluminum foil is used as the second layer of wrapping for the cakes after Press & Seal. The metal foil guarantees that no humidity will leak in, while the first layer preserves the cake tightly packed and fresh. I also wrap banana bread and other fast breads in this manner. Maximum freshness and no freezer burn with a double layer. Don’t be hesitant to apply an additional layer of aluminium foil or Press & Seal because moisture is the enemy.
Cakes may easily be thawed. One day before decorating or serving, move the wrapped cakes from the freezer to the refrigerator. Normally, I remove them from the freezer container and thaw them out. How to Freeze Cake The cakes must thaw completely in the refrigerator for at least 8 hours. Sometimes I forget and leave the cake(s) to defrost at room temperature, but it’s best if they defrost more slowly in the fridge.
This is crucial: Make sure the cakes are being defrosted while they are still wrapped. You see, as food defrosts, condensation builds. In this manner, the covering will develop condensation rather than the cake. Anyone for a moist, sticky cake?
Cakes to Freeze Best
Almost any cake can be frozen once it has completely cooled. When wrapped in a few layers, as described above, super flavoured desserts like banana cake, chocolate cake, carrot cake, and pumpkin cake freeze and thaw nicely. After being frozen and then thawed, I think their flavour is much better! As long as they are thoroughly cooled and packed properly before freezing, bundt cakes and pound cakes freeze admirably as well.
