Is Distilled Malt Vinegar the Same as White Vinegar?
While the primary distinction between white vinegar and malt vinegar is colour, distilled malt is distinct. And, because white vinegar and distilled malt vinegar appear to be the same thing, you may wonder if they are. The short answer is that they are not.
Malt vinegar, to be more specific, is prepared from fermented barley. This results in a slightly bready flavour with an oh-so-delicious tang that goes well with a variety of dishes. For example, when coupled with fish & chips and other comparable foods, this is the most usually used vinegar. It has a rich and robust flavour, but it is mild enough when it touches your tongue that it does not leave you with an unpleasant aftertaste.
White vinegar, on the other hand, simply has two ingredients: acid and water. It is also known as “ordinary” vinegar.
